Cllr Hopgood is Leader of the opposition on Durham County Council, having been the former Leader of DCC. She made history by being the first female Leader of the Council when elected in 2021.
She is a trustee and member of several organisations within her ward and holds positions on numerous bodies locally, regionally and nationally, including the Association of North East Councils, Durham County Cricket Club, and the Local Government Association.
Amanda was one of the founding leaders and signatories to the creation of the North East Mayoral Combined Authority, within the cabinet she held the portfolio position of Culture, Tourism, Sport and the Arts and was instrumental in working in partnership to ensure this was a major focus for economic regeneration of the region.
Prior to becoming a councillor Amanda worked for a major High Street bank as a mortgage adviser for 20 years. She is a director of a not-for-profit childcare provider.
